Top 5 Skincare Essentials

With the stress of planning a wedding and the change of seasons in the air, comes the need to switch up my skincare routine. In order to be proactive (no pun intended) I've introduced a new gadget (the Spin For Perfect Skin) and stuck by a few favorite products.

I have pretty sensitive skin and over the past year I've made an effort to trade out my harsher products for their natural counterparts. Though I may get a blemish or two, here's what I use to keep things clear:

Sage & Rose Facial Mist // Whenever my face is feeling a little lackluster (I'm looking at you 3PM caffeine crash) this mist by Fat & The Moon is perfect for reviving dull skin. Rose extract not only smells great but is perfect for fighting any pore clogging bacteria you've picked up during the day.

Herbal Blemish Stick // I don't know about you but I'm head over heels for the tingly sensation of tea tree oil! This spot stopping oil (a mixture of tea tree, willow bark and juniper), does a great job of keeping blemishes and acne at bay. I've found that my skin loves Burt's Bees products and most of my medicine cabinet/shower shelves include products from the granola-y brand.

Spin For Perfect Skin // Until recently I wasn't exfoliating... gasp! I noticed my face had become a little less bright than I like (don't we all want bright, young-looking skin?!) and was overjoyed when Vanity Planet sent me the Spin For Perfect Skin to try. This little gadget has changed my entire skincare regimen! I wash with the face brush each morning and have started using the attachment for body a few times per week. As someone with super sensitive legs (shaving bumps and irritation due to laundry detergent are a frequent occurrence), I can't tell you what a huge help it's been. The amazing part? Vanity Planet has given me a coupon code (HAZELANDSCOUT) to share with you! You can pick up your very own skin + body brush for 70% off (just $30 at checkout!).

Fresh Pharmacy Cleanser // LUSH is one of my favorite organic, fair-trade companies. With all kinds of amazing smelling soaps with great ingredients, I always find myself trying something new. This facial bar is a mixture of calming calamine, camomile, lavender, rose and tea tree (sensing a theme?).

Lavender Essential Oil // We use this miracle worker on everything! Lavender essential oil is amazing for treating blemishes, unwinding after a long day and even treating mosquito bites. Learn more about incorporating this oil into your routine here.

p.s. Skincare is such a personal thing and what works for my skin-type may not be right for everyone.

p.p.s. The Spin For Perfect Skin was gifted to me by Vanity Planet, however, all opinions and words are my own. It is my policy to only select goods and companies that I truly believe in and wish to share with you. Thank you for supporting the brands that make Hazel + Scout possible.

Winterize Your Nails

My love of neutrals translates all the way to my finger tips! Since I'm usually not one to sport bright pink nails, I like to spruce up my hands with interesting geometric shapes like these DIY triangles.

To achieve a similar look: paint your nails any nude shade of your choice, use transparent tape to create triangle shapes with the tip of your nail as the base and fill in your "stencil" with a darker shade.

I like to make painting my nails a relaxing little ritual. I almost always light a candle, surround myself with a little greenery (the scent of fresh greenery just can't be beat when you're trying to unwind) and sit myself in front of something fun (like Gilmore Girls on Netflix) that will keep me distracted while I wait out the drying time. Is it just me or do you always have 100 things to do when your nails are drying?

Julep was kind enough to offer their pro tips for winterizing your nails:

+ CLIP & SHAPE
Shorter nails are clean, healthy and gorgeous for winter. For smooth edges, start with the coarse side of your emery board and finish with the finer side.

+ CUTICLES: BE GONE!
Soak your nail beds for at least 30 seconds. For a spa experience, heat up your cuticle remover in a mug of warm water first. Use a cuticle pusher or orange wood stick to gently push your cuticles back.

+ EXTRA OOMPH
Polish your clean, winter-ready nails with two coats of Oxygen Nail Treatment to keep them strong and healthy. Moisturize twice a day to keep your 'tips hydrated and happy through dry winter months.

Don't forget to check out Julep for a few of my favorite neutral shades!

p.s. Juelp reached out and asked me to share their winter nail care tips, however, I am not being compensated for this post and was not provided any products for review. All opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that allow Chelsea & The City to keep creating original content.

Beauty Bag Redux

I wish I was a beauty girl! The sad truth is (since I end up spending most of my frivolous funds on clothes and things for the house), my beauty bag is seriously left wanting. There are a few things I swear by (I'll  buy Big Shampoo by Lush forever) but I'm not really loving my current drugstore beauty situation... time to trade up!

Aesop Purifying Cream Cleanser, Volumising Conditioner & Fabulous Face Oil - It seems that everyone loves Aesop products (and with that gorgeously minimal packaging, who wouldn't?) and I must be he last one to give them a try. A few new facial products and a conditioner that won't weigh my hair down sound like the perfect things to test out.

Grown Alchemist Body Cream & Treatment Serum - Grown Alchemist is another brand that all of my favorite bloggers are recommending all of a sudden. Again, I can't help but think that beautiful packaging is to blame but I'm definitely a label savvy shopper. If something doesn't look good in my medicine cabinet, I'm a little less likely to purchase... oops! Since my skin is going b-a-n-a-n-a-s lately (blame our crazy month on the road) I've got my eye on these two healing products.

Rodin Hand Cream - I've been wanting to try this luxurious hand cream for the longest time. Why not treat myself to something a little luxe?

NARS Illuminator - When it comes to cosmetics, I'm a die-hard NARS fan. Their Sheer Glow foundation is my holy grail product and I can always count on the brand for beautiful shades of everything. This Summer it's all about dewy and glistening skin... enter the illuminator. NARS claims that this glow-reflecting liquid will "light the skin from within". Now that's something I'm sure we can all get behind!

LUSH Big Shampoo - This gritty shampoo (it's made with sea salt and smells exactly like fresh laundry!) is basically my favorite thing ever. Even though Lush recommends using it as a deep cleanse once a week, I tend to wash my hair with it at least twice because it's just too good. Since I scrub my (rather long) strands everyday, they can get pretty limp weighed down quickly. This buildup-stripping product removes all of the styling residue and gives my hair just enough bounce to flip it around like Beyonce... it's a good thing.
