Four Favorites: Color Blocking

four-favorites-colorblockingshort trench // stripe-sleeve tee // colorblock lace pencil skirt // metallic bin

When the colorblocking trend cropped up a few years ago I was all over it in a big way. I was mixing just about every shade of the rainbow and loving it (it was a unfortunate time for my wardrobe...) but I've since seen the light. Over the past year or so I've really gotten a handle on my personal style and this time around I'm loving subtle blocks of neutral colors for my closet AND our home!

Southern Comfort

The longer I live in the South the more I fall in love with its charm... you just can't find history, hospitality or tradition like this anywhere in the world! We've been living below the Mason-Dixon line for almost six years and I'm finally coming to terms with abandoning my Yankee upbringing for a slower, sweeter lifestyle.

The funnest way to acclimate to Alabama has definitely been finding ways to incorporate a little bit of Southern comfort into our home. Where I may have opted for a minimalist Parsons desk before, something from the antique store fits nicely now (paired with an Eames chair, of cours... I'm never letting those babies go). A framed portrait of our first president? I would have called you crazy a few months ago but now I just can't get enough! One of my 101 in 1,001 goals was to start a collection and I've already picked up a few antique pieces of blue and white china. The challenge now will be to blend the two styles that I'm loving so much (modern and traditional).

There sure is something sweet about the South, ya'll. It's probably tea.

Holiday Gift Guide: Decor

holiday-gift-guide-decor Decking the halls has always been my favorite part of the holidays. I get so much joy from putting up our tree (and then curling up and staring at its twinkling lights each night) that I trimmed ours the week before Thanksgiving this year... oops! You gotta love a holiday where everything is covered in a light dusting of glitter and tied up in a pretty velvet bow.

If your friends and family are anything like me, the key to finding the perfect gift may just be in the trimmings. With so much of my winter budget going to gifts, I rarely splurge on new decorations for our home. I would definitely be wowed by a sparkling new ornament!
